Today I’m off to LA for the 42nd annual SCBWI Summer Conference! In fact, depending on when you read this, I may be on the plane or already there. It starts Friday but as a Co-Regional Advisor, I’ve got some meetings and such to attend beforehand.

The conference is some of the best fun on the planet–it doesn’t get much better than basking in the talent, humor, love, and generosity of all those authors and illustrators, both speakers and attendees.

I always come away incredibly inspired by the keynotes, the breakout sessions, and just chatting with other writers and illustrators. I feel like my stories matter and am so motivated to get back to them as soon as possible. This year I’ve made sure I have specific times set aside for writing when I return home so I can capitalize on the creative high I’ll be floating on and keep the creativity and positivity flowing.

I am thrilled to be helping at the registration table Friday morning which I got to do last year. I loved it because the energy, excitement and anticipation are palpable. We’re all so thrilled to be there and the weekend is full of hope and promise and never disappoints.

If you are attending this year’s conference, find me and say hello! If you can’t make it and are in Colorado, I encourage you to check out the SCBWI Rocky Mountain 2013 Letters & Lines Fall Conference. It’s not as big, but is packed with great speakers and sessions. Or find a conference or workshop in your area where you can connect with like-minded writers and illustrators who can celebrate and commiserate with you on your journey.
