Tuesday was the official release of my new picture book, If Your Monster Won’t Go to Bed! Such a magical day, with lots of well-wishers and excitement. I felt so, so grateful to be part of such an amazing community—of writers, friends, and family—each a part of the celebration in his or her own way.

It may feel sometimes like we work alone, but really we bring in all the experiences we have had with the people who we are lucky enough to interact with in all the ways that life may bring meaning–what we perceive as a “bad” or “negative” experience may very well have shaped a character in a story or caused us to pause in our treatment of someone else as we move through our lives.

As I held the book in my hands, I thought of all the people who were part of its creation—critique group members, my agent, all of the folks at Knopf —as well as writers I’ve learned from over the years, including the writers in the classes I teach…the list truly goes on.

Thank you to all of you who had a hand in the making of this book, whether you know it or not!
