Notes

The long and winding road to Burrito’s publication...

I submitted the manuscript to an editor I'd met at a conference in October 2001. She accepted it in December 2001 and we began the revision process (yes, you even revise when there's 55 or so words in a manuscript!) and the publisher, Cartwheel/Scholastic, began contacting illustrators. They selected David Diaz early on and that was very exciting.

But then things started to happen. My editors kept leaving (I tried not to take it personally--ha ha) and each new editor had different ideas about the format. Should it be a board book, a lift-the-flap, a tabbed book? They worked through each of these ideas and the years continued to pass. Finally, in late 2006/early 2007 I was told we were on schedule for a Fall 2008 release. I could hardly believe it! After SEVEN long years, my book finally came out!

The moral to this story is to keep pluggign away and to always have something else you love that you are working on!
